Dr. Paul Ashton President & Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Ashton was named the Company's President & Chief Executive Officer in January 2009 having previously served as Managing Director from January 2007 to January 2009 and Executive Director of Strategy from December 2005 to January 2007. Dr. Ashton was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Control Delivery Systems, Inc. ("CDS") from 1996 until its acquisition by pSivida in December 2005. CDS was a drug delivery company that Dr. Ashton co-founded in 1991. Prior to co-founding CDS, Dr. Ashton was a joint faculty member in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Surgery at the University of Kentucky, served on the faculty of Tufts University and worked as a pharmaceutical scientist at Hoffman-La-Roche. Dr. Ashton received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Durham University, England, and a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical science from the University of Wales.
Dr. David J. Mazzo Non Executive Chairman
Dr. Mazzo is the President and Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Regado Biosciences, an antidote drug systems discovery and development company. Dr. Mazzo has served as a member of the Nasal Drug Products subcommittee of the FDA Advisory Committee for Pharmaceutical Science and presently serves as an advisor to a number of academic and investment organizations. Dr. Mazzo was formerly the President and Chief Executive Officer and a Director of AEterna Zentaris, a biopharmaceutical company. Dr. Mazzo has also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Chugai Pharma USA, the U.S. affiliate of Chugai, a Japanese pharmaceutical company and a member of the Roche Group. Dr. Mazzo previously held management positions in several international pharmaceutical companies, including serving as Senior Vice President, Global Development Operations at the Schering-Plough Research Institute and as Senior Vice President and Global Head Pharmaceutical Development at Hoechst Marion Roussel. Dr. Mazzo is also a director of AVANIR Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AVNR).
Doug Godshall is the Chief Executive Officer and a director of HeartWare International, Inc., a leading innovator of less invasive, miniaturized circulatory support technologies that are revolutionizing the treatment of advanced heart failure. Mr. Godshall joined HeartWare in 2006 from Boston Scientific Corporation where he worked for 16 years. He held various executive and leadership positions at Boston Scientific, including President of the Vascular Surgery Division, a member of Boston Scientific's Operating Committee and had previously served as Vice President, Business Development where he oversaw more than 70 transactions including several strategic investments in the Ophthalmology arena.
Mr. Hopper is Managing Director at the Los Angeles merchant bank, Cappello Group. Mr. Hopper has over 20 years experience in the management and funding of biotechnology and healthcare public companies, and has served on the Boards of more than a dozen publicly traded companies in the US, Asia and Australia. Mr. Hopper is the Chairman of Viralytics Limited (ASX:VLA).
Mr. Rogers is Executive Vice-President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of BG Medicine (NASDAQ, BGMD). Mr. Rogers brings significant financing, acquisition, investment banking, and partnering experience relating to pharmaceutical and biotech companies to the pSivida Board of Directors and is the Chairman of the pSivida Audit Committee. Prior to BG Medicine, Mr. Rogers was Executive Vice-President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Indevus Pharmaceuticals, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial and Corporate Development Officer at Advanced Health Corporation, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of AutoImmune, and Vice President, Investment Banking at Lehman Brothers, Inc. and at PaineWebber, Inc. Mr. Rogers is also a Director of Coronado Biosciences, Inc (NASDAQ: CNDO).
Mr. Savas is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alseres Pharmaceuticals, a company engaged in the development of therapeutic and diagnostic products primarily for nervous system disorders. Previously, Mr. Savas served as Chief Executive Officer, President and Chairman of Aderis Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceuticals company. Mr. Savas also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Unisyn, a contract manufacturer of biologics. Mr. Savas is also the Managing Partner of Tughill Partners, a life sciences consulting firm.
